You Broke The Reigns of Death, All Souls Day

Spiritually, I love the month of November, when the church seems to exercise a maternal concern for her suffering children and when the communion of saints seems more alive. In addition to my prayers for the church, for souls, for my loved one, and for those who have asked to be remembered, I especially like to pray for the souls in purgatory, for the dying.

~Servant of God Elisabeth Leseur

So it is that we pray for all the faithful departed this day.

Thanks be to God!

  1. I too love the month of November, and All Souls Day always felt like such a day of reverence, and it was a day that was stressed in our family by my Mom and we were impressed upon to pray for the poor, suffering souls in Purgatory.
It makes me sad that my children and my grandson, even though they were/are being educated in Catholic Schools are not being taught these things.
And it's the same with Holy Cards and special prayers, it's all being lost, as much as I try impress these things upon them, there is no reinforcement in the schools or religious teaching like when I went to school, and absolutely no reinforcement from the parents with my grandchildren. I guess I really am 'old school'.

Beautiful post, Cathy, and it brought to mind many cherished memories.
    All the best,
    Eileen

  2. Eileen....I share your sentiments. Although not having children myself, I yearned for a time when I would pass along all that I was taught along to my children. I saved everything. My first cross, my first rosary beads, my holy water font, and so many sentimental things that I would have liked to pass down in the spirit in which it was given to me. My brothers and their wives didn't have that same passion.

Praying for those who are resting in Purgatory....

How lovely - the video and your thoughts! I have just come home from a day, 10am-4pm,dedicated to the Holy Souls and our own departed loved ones. This was at our local Abbey, a convent of the Sisters of St Joseph, and it was truely beautiful. It included Holy Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, a visit to the cemetery, and opportunity for Confession. Then I came home, turned on my computer, went into your blog and found your lovely post. All in all, it has been one wonderful day. Thanks Cathy and God bless you.
