~~Tea Talk and Month of Thanksgiving~~

Remember the tea kettle - it is always up
to its neck in hot water, yet it still sings!
~Author Unknown

I'm having...Irish Breakfast Tea

My teacup is...in need of a refill.

I'm feeling...Excited.  Wes, Annie and the Girls are coming for the weekend and the fall play is Saturday at Memorial.  Kellie is the student director.

On my mind...meals for the weekend.  Considering the menu options.

Every day, stop before something beautiful
long enough to say,

"Isn't that b-e-a-u-t-f-u-o!"
~~Alice Freeman Palmer

Giving thanks is what we all should do before we set foot out of bed each morning.  And so it is today that I give thanks for the people with which I work each day.  We laugh and cry together.  They, too, are family!

~~~^j^~~~
Thanks be to God!
Now if you'd be so kind as to visit Ruth at Celebrate Friendship  who is hosting Tea Talk and Tamara at Branch of Wisdom who is hosting A Month of Thanksgiving I'm sure you will find some delightful and wonderful words of wisdom, praise and gratitude.
A Month of Thanksgiving
Branch Of Wisdom
Politics exist to lead free men to a prosperous and
virtuous common life on this earth; religion exist
to save men's souls.  But from both of them are born
the two greatest loyalties know to man,:  the cross
and the flag. ~~Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen~~
And so it is that today, this Election Day, 2010, that I am grateful to live  in a land that I can elect the officials and praise God openly the treasures this land has to offer me.  I must never take this for granted!!!
~~~^j^~~~
Thanks be to God!

~~Mosaic/Macro Monday~~And Month of Thanksgiving~~

These plump little berries are on a bush that grows like a weed under out bedroom window.   Every spring we prune it back and whether drought or torrential rain it continues to blossom and  flourish.  But you know...I have no idea what this shrub is called.  It was here when we arrived and it will no doubt be here when we are gone.  Perhaps someone out there can put a name on our dear friend.

Finally, my reason for giving thanks...Answered prayers!!!!

Thanks be to God!

I would also like to remind you that Wednesday is Adventure Tour Express.  Be thinking about the adventure you would like to share on our journey together!

~~Tea Talk and Amazing Things and Month of Thanksgiving~~

Each cup of tea represents an imaginary voyage.
~Catherine Douzel~

I'm having...Irish Breakfast Tea

My teacup is...my Halloween mug.

I'm feeling...refreshed.  I'm pretty well caught up.  Dusted and did laundry.  Finished the chapter for Bible Study tonight.  I only have to vacuum on Saturday!

On my mind..Looking forward to celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of our friends Paul and Pat.  And having the grand kids over so Grandpa can take them trick-or-treating.

If at any day we accomplish some good here, the glory will certainly be his alone, since he has employed for his end instruments more capable of spoiling everything than of making it succeed.  ~Saint Mother Theodore Guerin~

I smiled when I read that quote for I knew she must be talking about me, too.  Some days I feel that way.  Me, the instrument, capable of spoiling almost everything and then somehow it all comes about the way it should.  He allows us to see the glory and appreciate it.  And we give honor where honor is due.

Just like last weekend as we were clearing the garden I saw these three blossoms/bud and so I clipped them off and put them in my very small teacup.

The very next day they had bloomed into these beautiful flowers.  They lasted nearly 5 days and the little owl carried them with such dignity.

Branch Of Wisdom

I find today I am grateful for the breezes the have blown. Not brisk or blustery breezes but the winds of Autumn that remind us there are changes coming.

~Adventure Tour Express~And a Month of Thanksgiving~

“A man practices the art of adventure when he breaks the chain of routine and renews his life through reading new books, traveling to new places, making new friends, taking up new hobbies and adopting new viewpoints” ~Wilfred Peterson
This week my adventure includes a reason for being thankful.  Traveling to Washington, DC is always a thrill for me.  Attending the National Book Festival, until the last few years, has always been something we looked forward to.   The beauty of its avenues, the glory of her architecture, and the throngs of people make it a destination for real adventure.  Consider those who have gone before us in this city.  Reflect on the wisdom and folly that has passed through the doors  of the government offices there.  And then consider the Providence that oversees  it and the nation beyond its boundaries.

The Capital aglow at night...
and the monument emblazoned in light.
Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
Washington DC

In this city of government buildings there is also houses of worship that give glory to the Creator of it all.  Within these walls there is offered praise and thanksgiving to the One who watches over us all.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen once said:

"The principle of democracy is a recognition of the sovereign, inalienable right of man as a give of God, the Source of law."
An so it is today as I continue this adventure begun those many years ago, that I am thankful for the freedom to worship, a treasure more precious than gold.

He who finds Jesus finds a treasure, better than all other treasures, and he who loses him has lost mor that all the world. ~Thomas a Kempis

Thanks be to God!

Please enter your adventure here so we can share the journey.

A Month of Thanksgiving

Branch Of Wisdom

Love for our neighbor consists of three things:  to desire the greater good of everyone; to do what good we can when we can; to bear, excuse, and hide others' faults.  ~Saint John Vianney

I am taught a lesson in loving my neighbor as I see these beautiful roses blooming together.  There doesn't seem to be any jealousy or vying for attention.  They simply and most effectively blossom and grow though the nourishment of the roots and stems they all share.

And so it is that I am grateful for kind neighbors.  I am thankful for the one who stops and allows me to turn left after having waited at an intersection for what seemed to be an eternity.  I am grateful to the child who, when I had worked all day and came home and made less than my usual meal, said, "Thanks, Mom, " and did not say, "Peanut butter and jelly?  We had that for lunch."

This is the time of year, though it should be all year round, that we traditionally "give."  Since food pantries are always in need of food.  I would urge all who read this to a contribute to their local food pantry.  There can never be too much for those who have so little.  We need to remember that as a people of God we all share the same "roots and stems" that help us to grow.

~~Mosaic/Macro Monday~~

This Gerber Daisy is no quitter. This plant is already lived two summer and Ron has already started preparing to give her and her sisters another winter of tender loving care. Until the care begins, she is still bursting forth in grand color.

Just as "Daisy" is not giving up the ghost of summer and fall, I too am having difficulty giving up the memories of this wonderful year!  I can only say how grateful I am for the privilege of experiencing the glory of God.

~~~^j^~~~
And so as part of the
Month of Thanksgiving
I say,
Thanks be to God!
In Praise of God
Love is a mystery that transforms everything it touches into things beautiful and pleasing to God. The love of God makes a soul free. ~Saint Faustina Kowalska
It is important that our Lord be praised in the love offered to us, and so I praise Him.
I praise him in my children and grandchildren, for the gifts and talents he as produced.
I praise God in the love of my husband for the example of generosity and compassion he offers to others.
I praise him in Sundays, those holy days of rest.
I praise him in my friends who support me and care for me
~~^j^~~
Thanks be to God!!!
Now venture over to My Chocolate Heart and read others words of praise and perhaps add your own! It's been some time since I have participated but it does do a body good to write it down or say it out loud, "Praise God!"
A New Adventure
Imagine a co-worker calls you on your cell at work and tells you she has run out of gas. Imagine "Gasoline Annie" running home to get the gas can you know has gas in it. Then imagine it's a 5 gallon gas can. Next I want you to imagine two women, yes it takes two, putting the gasoline into the truck that had run out of gas. In all the time "Gasoline Allie" and I were filling her tank only one young man stopped to see if he could help. Of course we thanked him for stopping, but imagine only ONE! No one even stopped to see if they could call (I guess supposing everyone has a cell phone now). At any rate we both got to work safe and sound and only 1/2 hour late.
Tea Talk~There's Always the Day After
May you always have walls for the wind.
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you
and all your heart might desire.
Irish Blessing
For all those who had a most grand celebration, recuperation may not be as hard as you think. Sit down with a hot cuppa tea, put your feet up, and be profoundly grateful it's only a headache you're havin'!
I'm having...Good Earth Tea with it's warm cinnamon sweetness.
My teacup is...my plain white mug (nothing too flashy this morning).
I'm feeling... Grand! Though the foot is a wonderful shade of black-and-blue I can walk on it without any discomfort today and have been without "the boot" for two days now!
On my mind...is gratitude for a strained foot not a broken foot!
Inspired?
It's not often that I feel that a comment I left for someone is inspired by the Holy Spirit. And perhaps it is my vanity that is allowing me to think that now. I was responding to MightyMom's post at My Wonderful Life on Rearranging. But when I finished commenting I realized I had been taught another lesson in Thanksgiving. So now I offer this to you with sincere humility.
I remember one Christmas when my Jimmy daily took all the gifts from under the tree and replaced them in a different way. I tried to stop this but soon realized this was his way of "celebrating" until the day when he could open his gifts. In some way, that's what we do in our lives. When we pray daily we are really asking God to help us place our gifts, use them and to celebrate them until we can realize that ultimate gift of heaven.
and to MightyMom for the
I have edited this from the original by adding a few words and checked the grammar, but it is essentially the same comment.
Wonderful Day!!!
"Thank God! Give him the praise and the glory. Before all the living, acknowledge the many good things he has done for you, by blessing and extolling his name in song. Before all men, honor and proclaim God's deeds, and do not be slack in praising him." Tobit 12:6
A Bit of Thanksgiving Humor
Maggie sent me this tale. Please take time out from stuffing, cooking, baking, mopping and cleaning. Rest and enjoy!!! You NEED a break!!!
A Parrot And A Turkey
A young man received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.
Every word out of the bird's' mouth was rude, obnoxious, and laced with profanity. The man tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary.
Finally, he was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back and cursed him.
He shook the parrot, and the parrot got angrier and even ruder.
The man, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, he quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto the man's outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I am sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do verything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
The man was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.
As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very, very softly: "May I ask what the turkey did?"
~~~Happy Thanksgiving~~~
