The Season of Thanks

Many moons ago, before Simon became ill, I was offered the opportunity to share with you six reasons I am happy. Now with his return I can reply. Thank you Esther for this opportunity.

According to the rules, I have to post six things that make me really happy ... and pass it on to give six more people a reason to be thankful!

1. My husband, Ron and, 40 years of marriage, and this my birthday, 62 years. (I know that's really 3).

2. My five children and 9 grandchildren

3. An occupation in nursing that gives me the opportunity to serve

4. A Parish family that gives love and support at every opportunity.

5. Good friends

6. Having the freedom to love and worship God and share my Catholic faith with others.

I have tagged:

1. Kelly

2. Laura A

3. Laura

4. Suz

5. Yvette

6. Tracy

Premio Dardos

I'm privileged to have been awarded this award by Marie at View From The Pews and Esther at A Catholic Mom in Hawaii. To them I offer my sincere thanks, for these are two grand ladies. This award acknowledges the values that every blogger shows in his/her effort to transmit cultural, ethical, literary and personal values every day. Both Blogs truly exemplify these values!

The rules to follow are :1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person that has granted the award and his or her blog link.
2) Pass the award to other 15 blogs that are worthy of this acknowledgment.
Remember to contact each of them to let them know they have been chosen for this award. (Sorry, but I may not have the time to do this).

This is the difficult part. Not giving 15 but finding 15 who have not already been gifted with this award. So, I will do my best.

Blustery Day?

I started this this movie clip as a whim, a bit of humor to add to the blog. That was about 10:00 a.m. and we didn't have any electricity. Looks like the joke was on me...Blustery day nothing!!! They were high winds, apparently up to 60 miles an hour. Whew! The storm not only took out the electricity, it took down many trees. Limbs and branches were everywhere. Little did we know we would be without electricity for three days. All because I wanted to dramatize the "Blowin' in the Wind." OH! By the way...we got not one drop of rain from this storm. Guess the wind was blowing so hard it blew the rain right on through.

At any rate it proved we had a new roof that could withstand the winds as there was no damage there and except for the inconvenience (and you know it is and inconvenience) of not having electricity for three days, we did not lose any trees and only a few small limbs. I'd have to say God had been gracious to us.

Will be going to INDY this weekend to help Wes and Annie move into their new house so if I seem gone it's because I'm movin' not cuz I'm lost.

God Bless you all for your concern!

Thanks be to God!!!

NOT A Lost Weekend!!!!!

Well, will you look at this!

Even though we're not in INDY this weekend we have lots to do. It's best to get things done at home.

1. Finish setting up computer accounts for Indiana Meteorite Lab (have put this off as long as I can. Woe to those who procrastinate!)

2. Get the car washed and cleaned. We will be picking up family and friends at the INDY airport for Marianne and Eric's wedding in October...

3. Work on some photo projects, especially pictures of the Women's Ice Cream Social at church.

4. Of course, there is still the laundry. It never goes away for the weekend.

5. And preparation for Bible Study tomorrow night at the DeCastr's.

Well, from my corner of the world, have a great weekend. Mine already is!

It's so nice...

"Morning Walk"

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Today marks the 7th day where no air conditioning has been used here at the Keller homestead. The windows are open, the cool air is flowing unrestrained through the house. For Indiana in August this is unheard of and so I say, "Blessed be God, forever!" Please, everyone, enjoy today!

Celebrate!

We have much to celebrate this 4th of July Weekend. Perhaps, taking time out to take stock of our lives is a good start to that celebration. And then thanking the Author of this celebration is essential. After offering words of gratitude, then turn our prayers to others.

This is not a lesson on prayer as, I for one, have difficulty expressing how to pray. But I have found another's lesson I'd like to share with you.

Pray for One Another

We often wonder what we can do for others, especially for those in great need. It is not a sign of powerlessness when we say: "we must pray for one another." To pray for one another is, first of all, to acknowledge, in the presence of God, that we belong to each other as children of the same God. Without this acknowledgment of human solidarity, what we do for one another does ot flow from who we truly are. We are brothers and sisters, not competitors or rivals. We are children of one God, not partisans of different gods.

To pray, that is, to listen to the voice of the One who calls us the "Beloved," is to learn that that voice excludes no one. Where I dwell, God dwells with me and where God dwells with me I find all my sisters and brothers. And so intimacy with God and solidarity with all people are two aspects of swelling in the present moment that can never be separated.

The Only Necessary Thing: Living a Prayerful Life
by Henri J. M. Nouwen
compiled and edited by Wendy Wilson Greer

So it is that on this weekend when we Americans have so much for which to be grateful, I encourage you all to stop and pray for each other. Pray for me! I will pray for you. Pray for peace and understanding. When we do this we know we have a captive audience, an attentive ear. Why not take advantage of it?!

There are a couple of things I want to do...

before Lent arrives. I think I have been blessed since I started blogging with many who have given me such positive reinforcement and, I think, genuine and considerate responses to my posts. I am really grateful for this as it encourages me to continue.

And so it is that I have been given this lovely gift by Suzy at Sailing by Starlight ( though I must add that during Lent her site will be unplugged) and so I want to send it on. I have been asked to offer this to 5 others and link to Ukok's Place.
Here are my nominees:

A Catholic Mom in Hawaii
A Daily Grotto
Therese's Roses
View from the Pews
~A Truckers Wife~

~~~~~
For these and all who have visited me here,
Thanks be to God!
AND
Because I had been tagged days ago I thought it would be best to respond to this.
1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages)
.2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.
Book: Radical Grace by Richard Rohr
So revelation and faith are correlative: There cannot be faith without revelation. We cannot believe in a person who has not shared himself or herself with us. To the degree that person has shared with us, we can believe in that person. ("Self-revelation of God")
I then invite those who visit this site to accept this as an opportunity to share where you are in literature.
And again, Thanks be to God.
RCIA
Dear friends, Sunday is the day of my RCIA presentation of the Healing Sacraments. If you could send up a prayer that I be a TRUE instrument of the Holy Spirit and that His voice is the one they hear and it is his Love that is shared.
The Spirit really is a true friend. One I have come to rely on for some time. Thanks to my dad, who said he didn't start his day without a word with Him, I think it is now second nature to me.
I really was having trouble with organizing the "Breaking Open the Word" portion of the presentation, but after my son, David, and I prayed together it just seemed to come together. Thanks be to God and David's phone call.
So the work is done on the presentation. Now the work starts with me. "Just Pray," Mom says, "the rest comes together." So I think with an army of prayers I should do okay.
!!!!~~~~~~~!!!!
For you all who give so generously, I say,
THANKS BE TO GOD!
Right to Life VIII
Pieta, Shrine of Sainte-Anne de Beaupre
Quebec, 2003
Day Eight
Consecrated to the Sacredness of Life by Christ
Prayer
Father of life, in every moment of the day remind me of the incomparable value of every human person.
A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to John 3:16-18
For God so love the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
(silent reflection)
Prayer
God of all creation, as by his birth, Christ united himself with us, so by the way we live our lives, may we witness the boundless love of the one who so loved the world that he gave his only Son.
A reflection of Pope Benedict XVI*
[The] words [of Pope John Paul II]...constantly echo in my ears: "Do not be afraid! Open wide the doors for Christ!..." Are we not perhaps all afraid in some way? If we let Christ enter fully into our lives, if we open ourselves totally to him, are we not afraid that he might take something away from us? Are we not perhaps afraid to give up something significant, something unique, something that makes life so beautiful? Do we not then risk ending up diminished and deprived of our freedom? And once again the Pope said: No, if we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship are the doors of life opened wide. Only in this friendship is the great potential of human existence truly revealed. Only in this friendship do we experience beauty and liberation...Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything.
Our Father...
Hail Mary...
Glory Be...
*Pope Benedict XVI, Homily, Mass for the Inauguration of his Pontificate, April 24, 2005.
~~~~~~~

"No, if we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship are the doors of life opened wide." I can only imagine what it is like to stand in front of David's Pieta. I only know that standing in front of the Pieta at the Shrine of Ste. Anne I could only be filled with sorrow for the mother who held her lifeless son in her arms and gratitude to God our Father for his Son. I cannot truly empathize with her loss. I really have never experienced loss as devastating as this was, but because Our Lady was the mother of God...Oh! I cannot put what I want to say into words. They escape ME!!! Indeed, there are times when words are useless and one must only be quiet!! And so it is for me today. LIFE is GOOD!!!

~~~
In gratitude for quiet reflection, I say,
Thanks be to God!!!
