First Time to Florida

Our path to the beach began here, an enticing opening to my first visit to the beach in Florida.

It was certainly different than the beach in Carmel, CA.  We lived in Monterey, CA while Ron was in the military in 1970 and so we could go to the beach there often.  It was so different, though.  The waves crash there and the water is cold.  I remember surfers would wear wet suits.

My first experience on the beach near Ft. Matanza on the east coast of Florida was so very different.  The water was much warmer, especially in October, and the waves lapped the beach.  I reminded me of the beach on South Padre Island on the Gulf.  It was most enjoyable.

Gorgeous Yellow Hibiscus

The flora around the house where we stayed was so lovely and the palm tree was most regal.  And, oh. what fun we had sitting on the beach.  I especially liked the red umbrella.

All in all it was a wonderful 5 days of fun with family in a really lovely place.

~~~^j^~~~
Thanks be to God!
  4. So happy to see you enjoyed Florida! Those two oceans on either side of our country could not be more different could they! We live in Oregon not too far from the Pacific coast and spend winters nowadays in Florida, not too far from the other one...all the difference in the world.
  5. Cathy - we have been to east coast beaches, southern beaches and west coast beaches, and yes, west coast beaches can be a big surprise with the cold water, even in the midst of summer. You have captured lovely images - I especially like the one of the boardwalk leading out to the beach! I look forward to hearing about your trip to Ireland, and thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
  7. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Florida - come back and visit us again. The Gulf stream keeps the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico warm around Florida. My trips to California convinced me I'm never going in the Pacific - way too cold!
  12. I'm always attracted to the sea whether it be warm or cold. I mean to look at rather than swimming. What a lovely few days you must have enjoyed in Florida.
  13. You can only look at the water in NOrCal but the beaches and the water in Florida are just what the doctor ordered, isn't it?
  18. Glad you like Florida!
    We used to live in the northeast, and after we discovered Florida beaches, we never swam in the beaches of New Jersey or New England again. Most Florida beaches are friendly, with restrooms, shower and free parking! Unless you're visiting the more famous beaches during prime season, you have the beach to yourself most of the time.
