This morning my walk down to the river greeted me with a surprise. I don't often get to see barges moving coal up river on the Ohio as often as I used to. It's a glorious day here and a grand day to be out and about!
I was going through some old photos this morning and came upon thee of our day trip to Spring Mill State Park. It's a beautiful place to visit with all the foliage and pioneer village.
Log Cabin
Foot Bridge and Grist Mill
The photos on the right of the collage are of the working grist mill. The corn meal they grind makes the best corn bread!!! I'm thinking it's time I returned to Spring Mill State Park.

Thanks be to God!

Hello, neat photos of the barge. Are they carrying coal? The log cabin and mill is a pretty area! Enjoy your day, have a great new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was carrying coal. Don't see the barges as often as we used too. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteI'd make a trip to the mill often, I'm sure. I'd love to see a barge loaded with coal going up/down the river. What a sight to see.
ReplyDeleteOh how cool. I love the pioneer village and the barge was def. not something you see everyday.

Barges are an important part of moving natural resources and products to and from cities along the coast. Logs are moved in large booms pulled by a tug. Other items are in containers on barges. Some communities rely on these kinds of deliveries for everything they receive. - Margy
ReplyDelete...Spring Mill State Park looks like the kind of place that I'd love to visit. I mills and have visited a number of them over the years. Thanks Cathy for sharing, take care.
ReplyDeleteold cabins are some of my favorite sights to visit - beautiful views!
ReplyDeleteCathy - fascinating that they are moving the coal UP river - isn't it more likely that is where it CAME from? I wonder where it is headed. I will be visiting Ohio soon and my son and I are planning a hike together - it is likely to be a state park, and I am grateful they have re-opened! Thanks for sharing these down-home scenes with everyone at Mosaic Monday! (By the way, I am deeply grateful for your faithful participation in MM - it means so much to me!)
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy, Spring Mill looks like an interesting place to visit, I love wandering around old houses and towns like that and will be so happy when we can go visit some more once lockdown is lifted here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mosaic Monday, Maggie @turning the page

The log cabin is so neat! And when we were in Parkersburg one time we saw the coal on barges like that. It was amazing! Great photos! Happy MM!

I love historical places such as this--it is like taking a trip back in time.
ReplyDeleteYou have me hungry for corn bread now (it won’t be as good as yours with fresh locally ground) but we will enjoy. Lovely pictures, so peaceful looking. We had our RV parked on the Mississippi River a couple of times where we could see barges moving up and down...Fabulous to experience!
ReplyDeleteBoth the park and river look like lovely places to walk.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos of a great day out, Cathy. Love the log cabin.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday!
God bless, Cathy.
ReplyDeleteLife goes on just like a river's unending flow. Happy Thursday to you.
