Newan University Church

I was finally working on organizing my photos and formulating the memory book from our trip to Ireland  when I revisited this moment in the tour of Dublin.  It wasn't scheduled but the tour guide stopped so we could visit this church and neighborhood.

I had learned about Saint John Henry Newman and his life through Bishop Robert Barron's Word On Fire series Pivotal Players.  It was also exciting to be where he had preached and instructed.   He had only just recently be canonized on October 13, 2019 and we were there on November 9, 2019.

Saint John Henry Newman was born in London, England.  He was an influetial churchman and man of letters of the 19th caentury, who lead the Oxford movement in the Church of England and later became a cardinal deacon of the Roman Catholic Church.
This is the street where he lived.
The blue door was the entrance to his home.

It's been a privilege for me to travel to many places and the best part of travels are those that are not planned.  For those I am truly grateful!

Florida Sunrise

To say I had a wonderful time in Florida would be an understatement.  The best part of the adventure was the time I spent with family!  You can never spend too much time with your kids and grand kids.  Again, life is good!

Halloween Preview

Two of my favorite quotes for Halloween

A grandmother pretends she doesn't know who you are on Halloween.
~~Erma Bombeck~~

'Tis now the very witching time of night
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world
~~William Shakespeare~~

Beautiful Friends

WELCOME

It's a most beautiful time of the year.  The leaves begin to change, but flowers continue to bud and bloom.  I do love to walk in the fall.  Fresh crisp air that awakens me and makes me appreciate all that is dear to me even more.

Roses continue to boast of their beauty, as if trying to remind me today, that I need not worry for they will return in the Spring to brighten my days.  For surely that is their sole purpose.

Days decrease,
And Autumn grows
Autumn is everything
~~Robert Browning~~

I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.
~~Nathaniel Hawthorne~~

The Glory of An Autumn Garden

But friendship is the breathing rose,
with sweets in every fold.
Oliver Wendell Holmes

My favorite rose in the garden.  It's hardy and beautifully dainty at the same time.  It withstands the summer heat and the autumn chill.

The aster greets us as we pass
With her faint smile
Sarah Helen Power Whitman

Butterflies, bees and moths  in the garden.  Don't you just love it? And the Aster has become one of my favorite flowers

The burning bush is oh so lovely when it's color is brilliant red, but seeing her change so gloriously allows me to appreciate her even more for all the labor that goes into it.

Earth laughs in flowers.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

This wee hibiscus is sheltered in the bushes and even now is budding again.  How I have come to love these creations.

I'd rather have roses on my table,
than diamonds on my neck.
tEmma Goldman

And that pretty much says it all!!!  Have a wonderful week and don't forget to give the Glory to God!

Mt Evans and Memories

Mt Evans, the highest paved highway in North America
View looking toward the summit
Altitude 14,265 feet

The Panoramas
the beauty of the mountains

Mountain sheep and mountain goats

Summit Lake

Ever since I was a kid every fall Dad, Mom and we kids would take a picnic up to the summit of Mt. Evans.  It was always so very cold but Dad would start a fire in the picnic area and Mom would brew a pot of coffee.  That was the only time until I was "grown" that we kids would get to drink coffee. What a treat that was.  But then the whole day was a treat!  The added joy of seeing the colors of the yellow aspen leaves intermingled with those glorious pines was exhilarating.  The memories of those days are treasures no one can steal.

So this year I wanted to visit Mt Evans again on our trip to Colorado.  Things have changed.  There are no picnic areas at the top.  Other things have not changed.  It was still cold, 41 degrees and rain and sleet.  That didn't change the joy I felt when I saw the mountain sheep and mountain goats.  The beauty of the Rockies near the summit and the thrill of the traveling the highway.
