Saint Mother Theodore Guerin arrived here in October 1840.  She and three other sister traveled her from France at the request of Bishop Brute, the bishop of Vincenned, IN.  That was the beginning of a missionary journey that continues today.  

It's a wonderful place to reflect on the beauty of creation in so many ways.  There is  a walk on The Avenue, walking on the campus of Staint Mary-of-the-Woods College campus, and then there are the places along the way for prayer.  

 I graduated form the college in 1994 and I take a great deal of pleasure returning home to The Woods.  If for any reason you will be traveling to Indiana add Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to your itinerary.

Lenten Retreat at The Woods

Starting tomorrow I will be on retreat at Saint Mary-or-the-Woods.  The Sisters of Providence have been in Indiana since 1842 when Saint Mother Theodore Guerin set foot in these lovely woods.  The Woods is a place of serenity, peace and quiet.  Yes, and it is the campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.  It is an amazing place and I am so excited to be able to spend time there with the sisters and other associates. 

I will make my retreat in HOPE.  I'm not sure what I am hoping for but then that is the reason I am making a retreat.  I pray the Holy Spirit will guide me and that I have the willingness to listen.

which has protected us until the present, 

and which will provide, somehow,

for our future needs. . ."

I'm feeling...calm.  Even though my witness talk for Christ Renews His Parish is on Monday evening and I will be gone to a conference all weekend at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods I am confident that the Holy Spirit will be my guide.  Preparation is done.  Thanks be to God!  


On my mind...are the plans for this weekend.  We will be attending Women of Providence in Collaboration as a Providence Associate.  The speaker will be Reverend Ron Rolheiser, OMI and the topic is Providence:  Mystical Window on the World.  I cannot tell you how I look forward to hearing him speak!

A Walk At the Woods

This digital slideshow personalized with Smilebox I have to return to work today, but before I do I just want to share with you A Walk At the Woods. There are only a few pictures to whet the appetite. St. Mary-of-the-Woods located in Indiana is the home of the Sisters of Providence. It's the campus for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Most of all it is the Shrine of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, foundress of the congregation. Having spent time there again, I can tell you it is a privilege to walk the grounds where the good saint walked, taught and counseled. And it's hard to leave. Feast of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin

Today is the feast of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin. Canonized in October, 2006, she is foundress of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana.

So today I would offer these words of Saint Mother Theodore as I anticipate becoming an Associate of the Sisters of Providence in November.

"Do not give way to
uneasiness about the future.
Put yourself gently into the
hands of Providence."
