Bad Haiku Friday

Cross country running
Challenging and demanding
Discipline for life.

~~~~~
Grandson, Neil,  is in the 5th grade and has started running cross country this year.  This brings back fond memories of when his mother, uncles, and aunt ran cross country.  The training requires discipline and stamina and most of all a desire to run and finish the race.
The life of a Christian is not unlike that of a cross country runner.  Through hills and valleys the runner must run in order to cross the finish line.  We who follow Christ find those very same hills and valleys, but with proper training and the will to train, we too will find the discipline to carry on for the prize at the finish line here is priceless.
So this weekend we are off to South Knox for yet another adventure.  We're going to be there to encourage Neil in his race to the finish line.
~~Adventure Tour Express~~
Central City, Colorado
Gold found there in May, 1859 caused it to be
called The Richest Square Mile on Earth.
Saint James United Methodist Church
One of the oldest churches in the state.
Central City Opera House
Built in 1879 by Welsh and Cornish Miners.
Carriage House Sign
Store Fronts
A journey to Central City is step back in time.  Though gold mining is no longer the main source of income, it is grand to walk the streets and wonder what thrilling events took place here.  There is a wonderful book written by Caroline Bancroft about the history of Central City called Gulch of Gold.  I highly recommend it.
MEME Fun
I was tagged by NC Sue at In Him I Live and Have My Being last week for this MEME.  I have tried and tried to think of the top 10 most surprising things I've done.  Well it has been a struggle.  So here is my meager attempt and in no particular order, certainly not in chronological order.
 1.   I have been a nurse for 42 years and continue to work.
 2.   With the aid of a wonderful husband I have raised 5 children.
 3.  Co-chaired and parish overnight retreat.
 4.  Got my BA in gerontology at the age of48.  Told by my husband that I would be in the forefront  of my field my field.
 5.  I learned to ice skate at the age of 16.
 6.  Married my best friend 42 years ago!
 7.  I have 10 lovely grandchildren and another on the way.
 8.  Made my Cursillo in 1976 when I was 8 months pregnant with my 4th child.  That is an entirely    different story.
 9.  Have found that photography is a pleasure and I enjoy making photo books for family and friends.
10.  Having become an Associate of the Sisters of Providence has been a fulfilling experience.
Now I must tag some others.
So thanks to Sue for challenging me to reflect on my accomplishments.  And thank you to those I have tagged for playing along.
~~Mosaic Monday~~
May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
Commercial Endeavors
Commercials today
Lack much ingenuity
Commercials attack
Our intelligent nature
Or our lack thereof.
I could go on and on...the cynic in me is creeping out...but enough said.   Wishing all a grand weekend as I'm off to The Woods for a weekend of reflection and community with The Sisters and friends.
--Tea Talk~~
The mere chink of cups and saucers tunes the mind to happy repose.
~George Gissing, The Private Papers of Henry Ryecroft
I'm having...Lipton Bavarian Wild Berry tea.
My teacup is...delicate and familiar as I use it often.
I'm feeling...rested.   The morning is cool and the air is crisp.  Looking forward to a wonderful day.
On my mind...is the anticipation of this weekend's journey to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.  I will be meeting with Sisters of Providence and Associates with whom I can share my Journey of Providence.  We gather, often monthly, and this month we will spend 2 days at at The Woods.   And, oh, how The Woods will be transforming with Autumn knocking at the door.
Hoping all will be as refreshed and ready for the day as I feel!  Wishing you all well!
~~HOPE~~
The last two days I have seen something I was afraid I would not see for a long time.  I must preface this by saying I am allergic to the blessed bee.  The good thing is that they seem to be more interest in eating than bothering me.
It has been said that the are on the decline and because of that our crops, flowers and trees will suffer because there are not enough to pollinate.  So that is why I am hopeful.  You see in two different places hundreds of miles apart I saw the bee in action and not just one but lots of bees.
Important Recall Notice
The Maker of all human beings is recalling all units manufactured,regardless of make or year, due to a serious defect in the primary and central component of the heart.
This is due to a malfunction in the original prototype units code named Adam and Eve, resulting in the reproduction of the same defect in all subsequent units.
This defect has been technically termed:"Subsequential Internal Non-Morality", or more commonly known as S.I.N.,as it is primarily expressed.
Some other symptoms include:
1. Loss of direction
2. Foul vocal emissions
3. Amnesia of origin
4. Lack of peace and joy
5. Selfish or violent behavior
6. Depression or confusion in the mental component
7. Fearfulness
8. Idolatry
9. Rebellion
The Manufacturer, who is neither liable nor at fault for this defect, isproviding factory-authorized repair and service free of charge to correct this SIN defect. The Repair Technician, Jesus, has most generously offered to bear the entire burden of the staggering cost of these repairs. There is no additional fee required. The number to call for repair in all areas is:
P-R-A-Y-E-R.
Once connected, please upload your burden of SIN through the REPENTANCE procedure. Next, download ATONEMENT from the Repair Technician, Jesus, intothe heart component.
No matter how big or small the SIN defect is, Jesus will replace it with:
1. Love
2. Joy
3. Peace
4. Patience
5. Kindness
6. Goodness
7. Faithfulness
8. Gentleness
9. Self control
Please see the operating manual, the B.I.B.L.E. (Believers' InstructionsBefore Leaving Earth) for further details on the use of these fixes.
WARNING: Continuing to operate the human being unit without correction voids any manufacturer warranties, exposing the unit to dangers and problems too numerous to list and will result in the human unit beingpermanently impounded.
DANGER: The human being units not responding to this recall action will have to be scrapped in the furnace. The SIN defect will not be permitted to enter Heaven so as to prevent contamination of that facility.
Thank you for your attention!
God
Please assist where possible by notifying others of this important recall notice and you may contact the Father any time by "kneemail".
Ghost Town Adventures
Buick Electra, circa 1968
Adventures were the norm when Ron and I were dating.  Ron drove a 1963 Buick Electra and a date on a Sunday would be a trip to the mountains to explore old mining towns or ghost towns.   These were places definitely off road.  This Buick had miner's soul.  As big as this car was, it never got stuck and he never let us down.  Ron said he didn't need a Jeep as long as he had "The Tank."
 Gold Dust, Colorado
May, 1968
Thickening Tank
Monarch Mill
And so we arrive at the Monarch Mill.  A mill that processed the gold mined in the hills around it.
A process of leaching the gold our of the ore was done with cyanide and so the thickening tank was used to ultimately separate the gold from the slurry.  It was nasty job.  What man will not do for gold and riches.
It is incredibly exhilarating  to walk through and around a place that was once the center of activity and innovation.  To walk where others have walked and toiled hoping that the riches of the earth would make them RICH.  Wondering about the tales these empty places could tell if only they could talk."
It has been such a genuinely thrilling journey I began on those ghost town dates so many years ago.
