Empty Nest

From the empty nest
Three cardinal eggs were laid
Two flew away

~~~~~~~
Mom and Dad cardinal built this fragile nest in a rose bush next to the house.  We saw them flying in and out of the bush tending to the wee ones.  There were three fledglings in the nest but only two flew away.  One morning we saw on had landed on the patio in the sun.  Ron picked  him up and put him back in the nest.  Mom came and teneded to him.  He was found again under the patio table.  Again he was returned to the nest chirping away.  Finally, that evening we went outside to sit in the cool air, only to find the wee on had passed.  He was lying under the tree in the shade.  Such a sad ending to a story of hope.  Hope we must all have that hadn't we.  I do HOPE so.
Memories of Times Gone-by
What a family is all about is apparent when we visit family in the foothills of Colorado.  You can sit on the patio and be visited by the most beautiful creatures.  They come and sit and share the space with you.
The fawns came to say hello and mother spends time investigating the land.  "His Royal Highnesss"
sits and pervays the domain.  It's so wonderful to see nature at its best!!
Foggy Mornig in Rivertown
Fog covers the trees
Water drips from leaves like rain
Heaven come to earth
Short Outings
This morning my walk down to the river greeted me with a surprise.  I don't often get to see barges moving coal up river on the Ohio as often as I used to.  It's a glorious day here and a grand day to be out and about!
I was going through some old photos this morning and came upon thee of our day trip to Spring Mill State Park.  It's a beautiful place to visit with all the foliage and pioneer village.
Log Cabin
Foot Bridge and Grist Mill
The photos on the right of the collage are of the working grist mill.  The corn meal they grind makes the best corn bread!!!  I'm thinking it's time I returned to Spring Mill State Park.
Beautiful Black Swan
The graceful black swan
Not affected by others
He's solitary
Button, Button, Who's Got the Button
 I started making  face mask ear guards on April 16 and to date I have knitted 350.  I have donated them to one of the local hospitals and to the clinic where my son works.  The most difficult part of the project was getting buttons.  Friends and neighbor offered their buttons (I had none) and even my cousin from Oklahoma mailed them to me.  It's been quite an adventure.  One I have enjoyed but  wish I had never had to take.
Here is the finish product.  I can knit and crochet but I find  I like to knit better.  It has just made me so happy that I could contribute to the cause since I'm no longer actively engaged in nursing.
~~~~~~~

Here is the Pattern if you wish to pursue this.  And just call your local hospital's volunteer coordinator and I'll just bet she'll be happy to receive what you have to offer.

Yarn type:  Cotton
Needle size: 7

Cast on 20 stitches.  Knit across .  Repeat 5 more rows.  bind off.  Button size 1/2-7/16.  It takes about 15 minutes to knit.  I knit all I want and then put on the buttons.

And, too, I'd like to wish all a special Memorial Day Weekend.  It is certainly different from all we've ever experienced.  Make your day one to be remembered.  For me I'm just going to be very grateful for my family and friends and that I live in one Nation under God!

Roses Are Red

Just after the rain
She cradles water with care
Tender are her ways

~~~~~
I have been enamored  of roses since I was a child.  They always look dainty and elegant. What they don't want to let you know is how how strong they really are.  My dad nursed his roses with tender loving care (along with his begonias).  When it came time to work in the garden in the spring I had my own garden plot in which I was allowed to plant zinnias.  When I was old enough Dad taught me how to prune the roses and then was able to help him. . .I still had the zinnias.  And so my love of roses!
And the Rains Continue
The grass is green, the flowers are blooming and the weeds are thriving. It won't be long before we have to prune the bushes. . .when the spring rains stop.  Until then we'll enjoy the beauty that they bring.
Well, I'm back home from my WordPress adventure.  I guess I’m so used to my home here that it was hard to adapt.  At any rate, I've returned and happy to be here.  Wishing all a grand week!
Budding Spring
Frost warning tonight
The rosebuds prepare to bloom
In spite of our fear
For all their beauty
They always look so fragile
They are truly strong
Oh, Friday!
Oh, Friday's sadness
Reminds us that our burdens
Are shared by true Love
Hoping all have a glorious Easter!
