Adventure Tour Express

A man practices the art of adventure when he breaks the chain of routine and renews his life through reading new books, traveling to new places, making new friends, taking up new hobbies and adopting new viewpoints” ~Wilfred Peterson
~~~~~
It was my pleasure to spend four wonderful days at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.  It is the site of the Mother House for the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.  But first and foremost is was the destination of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin in 1840.
The Cabin
Saint Mary -of-the-Woods
 Replica
Let's here from Mother Theodore as she shares her words on her arrival at The Woods in 1840.  You can only imagine.
"I cannot tell you what passed within me during the next half hour.  I do not know myself, but I was  so deeply moved that I could not utter a word.  We continued to advance into the thick woods till suddenly Father Buteaux stopped the carriage and said, 'Come down, Sisters, we have arrived.'  What was our astonishment to find ourselves still in the midst of the forest, no village, not even a house in sight...[L]ed down into the ravine, whence we beheld through the trees on the other side a frame house with a stable and some sheds.  'There,' he said, 'is the house where the postulants have a room, and where you will lodge until your house is ready.'"
" We had agreed aong ourselve that our first visit would be made to the Blessed Sacrament, and that we soule not speak to anyone before having satiasfied this longing of our hearts.  The priest preceded us and we followed in silence to the Church.  The Church!!"
The church was a cabin, just as the pictures of the replica show above.  This was where Father said Mass and had only a cot in the corner where he could sleep.  Rude church but miracles still  happened here!
Today the Sisters and all who visit can enter and worship in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. You can walk the holy grounds.  You can enter into the silence.  The trees are the friends of reflection.  The buildings honor the wisdom of Saint Mother Theodore and all the Sisters of Providence since.  I find every time I visit I have been touched again by the love, energy, compassion and willingness to give of those who follow the charism of Saint Mother Theodore and the Sisters of Providence.
I'm feeling...calm.  Even though my witness talk for Christ Renews His Parish is on Monday evening and I will be gone to a conference all weekend at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods I am confident that the Holy Spirit will be my guide.  Preparation is done.  Thanks be to God!
On my mind...are the plans for this weekend.  We will be attending Women of Providence in Collaboration as a Providence Associate.  The speaker will be Reverend Ron Rolheiser, OMI and the topic is Providence:  Mystical Window on the World.  I cannot tell you how I look forward to hearing him speak!
Please join Ruth at Tea Talk today.
Boys Day Out
Recently the boys were golfing together.  It has been a number of year since they've been able to play a round together.  Treasured memories here photographed by their dad.  Each of these young men were entrusted to Ron and me.  Will never ever fail to see the goodness of the creator in them.  They have given us wealth untold.
Haiku My Heart
Lonely waterlily
So beautiful and fragile
Hope for the future
Tomorrow two young men will be ordained here in the diocese of Evansville.  Much like this poor waterlily in a pond that needs tending, these young men will be entering into a life of servitude where tending the garden of souls may be fragile, but oh what hope there is in the future.   They must never relinquish that hope.  Pray with me for them and all those how have answered the call to serve in the order of  Melchizedek.
Family is GRAND
Has been such a busy month, this Lusty Month of May that I fear A Bit of the Blarney has suffered.  Our oldest granddaughter has graduated from high school.  The family has all arrived to celebrate and I must say I have had the best time.
Lest I forget the reason why I have had such a wonderful holiday I must say how grateful I am to all those who have served their country, including my dear husband, Ron, so all us can experience the freedom we sometimes take for granted.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!
Haiku My Heart
Enthusiasm
It's been lost and can't be found
O where has it gone?
For the last several months I seem to have lost the excitement I once had in writing this blog.  I've even toyed with the idea of discontinuing the blog, but as often happens for me I just can't let it go yet.  Maybe the enthusiasm will return.  Perhaps, the thrill of the comment will "feed the ego" and I'll feel inspired again.  Who knows...At any rate today, I have given a name to what is lacking.
But courage and strength
As strong as the white rose stem
Upholds the value
Haiku My Heart
Miner and his mule
In search of silver and gold
Hoping for riches
Seeking adventure
Looking for prosperity
But often found none.
Soon value is found
Finding what is real and true
Loyalty and friendship.
The miner and his mule are Stinky and Bernadine.  They are a reminder of the exciting past Virginia City once had.  A delightful man with a wonderful sense of humor and tales to tell.
I'm having...My very favorite Good Earth Tea
My teacup...is my fun mug.
I'm feeling... tired and in need of some time to focus.  I feel disorganized and clearly need to take time to look at the next week and what I need to do before we venture to Atlanta next week.
On my mind...is the weekend.  It will be busy, especially on Saturday.  We will attend early Mass, attend this week's session of Catholicism and work at Mother Teresa's Treasures, St. John's thrift store.
Need to work in the garden, but it doesn't fit into the next two week's schedules. Oh, my!
